Bump In The Road:

Roxanne Daleo, PhD on Intelligence

Roxanne Daleo’s journey from childhood struggles to academic success is inspiring. In second grade she was diagnosed with a learning disability. She went on to graduate from Harvard with honors.

Roxanne’s story raises a question about ‘what is intelligence?” Is it the ability to repeat facts? To take a test? Or is it more complex and broad based?

Today, Roxanne is dedicated to helping children who face similar challenges. She emphasizes the importance of understanding that intelligence is not solely measured by traditional IQ tests. Instead, she advocates for recognizing the diverse capacities of children, including their artistic, musical, and kinesthetic abilities. Roxanne believes that self-esteem is built from within and that children need to be aware of their own gifts and proud of their unique abilities.

Roxanne’s work is a beautiful blend of science, art, and spirituality. Her story and her methods offer hope and guidance for anyone facing challenges, whether they are children or adults. Tune in to this inspiring episode to learn more about Roxanne’s journey and the transformative power of creative learning and inner strength.

A Footnote: I recently read AMidWesternDoctor’s Substack post on The Importance of Balanced Intelligence, where he questions how our society, especially medicine, creates increasingly limited silos of information, often to our detriment. It’s worth reading on its own, and it’s a great accompaniment to this post.

Roxanne Daleo: What is Intelligence?

“Your brain just works differently. You have a beautiful brain.”

“The bump in the road is there, but if you have a map to get beyond it, it makes it just almost, more like an adventure.”

“Self-esteem really is not derived from status, social position, or even IQ, but rather it’s how you feel about yourself and the relationship that you have with yourself.”

“Energy is the life force that lives in us. And in every living thing, there’s life force energy.”

“The universe is out there, but it’s also in here.”
