Have you ever felt unseen when you were growing up? That no one really listened or understood?
I suspect this feeling is nearly universal, but for some young people, facing poverty and family difficulties, the need to connect is keen.
Enter Carlamay. She started off in Nashville, pursuing a love of music. And from there to Calgary where oil and gas were booming. But something was missing. Until she went into law enforcement.
She worked in areas such as domestic violence, child abuse, and as a school resource officer, where she had the opportunity to connect with youth from diverse backgrounds. Carla’s unique approach to policing was rooted in her understanding that every individual has a story, and it’s essential to listen and engage with them on a human level.
Carlamay’s book “Youth Truth” Â is deeply moving, as is her story. Come listen in.
From Carlamay Sheremata
“We all have our bumps in the road.”
“Every kid has a different safe space and what that looks like is very different for every body.”
