Kevin Hughes is the author of “SocioMom: My Story of Terror, Truth and Triumph.“.

Kevin grew up in a house of secrets, silence, and unspeakable abuse. Behind closed doors, his sociopathic mother wielded control with cruelty, manipulation, and terror, masking it all with charm to the outside world. For decades, Kevin buried the trauma deep inside, dissociating from his own memories and pain. It wasn’t until a triggering incident in his late 40s that he began to confront his childhood and seek help.

Kevin discusses the process of opening up memories and emotions that he had kept buried for decades. If there is a corollary to this story, it is that healing is always possible. It is a story that illustrates no matter what has happened in your life, you can not only overcome your wounds, but you can learn to live again.
